Special days call for special meals, fir chahe woh ghar par khao ya baahar.
Apne yahan Dussehra par ghar par kuch special nahi banta, and hence I accepted the invite for a Dashmi dinner at Lavaash By Saby. The event was in association with California Walnuts.
Yeh to aapko pata hi hai ki walnuts se dimaag zyada chalta hai, and shayad isliye hi the fruit inside is shaped like a brain and bahar the shell is hard, bilkul apne skull ki tarah 🙂
As a rule, I always keep a few dry fruits at my home… almonds, walnuts, cranberries among others. Though cashews are my favourite too, par wahan problem ye hai ki haath nahi rukta jab tak khatam na ho jaaye box and if they are namkeen and a bit roasted toh halat aur bhi buri.

Coming back to my dinner tale, I left on time to reach in time but jaise hi I saw the illuminated Qutab Minar to mooh se waah! nikal gaya. And socha jaldi will come back and go inside. And then when my car crossed the main gate of Qutab Minar to dekha the gate is open. Time dekha to it was only 6.40pm. I had good 20 minutes in hand and was barely at a distance of 2 mins drive from Lavaash. Bas fir kyat tha, gaadi se utra aur chala gaya andar and was happy to take that quick decision… maza aa gaya lighting dekh ke 🙂
Finished my nippy trip of the legendary monument and headed toLavaash for my dinner date. The deck was done beautifully with roses, candles, walnuts, wine and friends and jis Qutab Minar ko main abhi bilkul paas se dekhkar aaya, woh ab mujhe wahaan se dekh raha tha 🙂

The open kitchen on the deck was buzzing (as always) with activity. Koi kebab bana raha hai to koi Roomali Roti 🙂
And bas khaane peene ka duar shuru hua.
Dinner Date at Lavaash by Saby
The Standard Lavaash Chips came with California Walnut Hummus which was so delicious ki main to use direct ungli se hi khaata raha. The Chicken Shawarma too had California Walnuts inside as well as outside and loved the taste and the crunch of walnuts in each bite.
In sab ka saath diya Sula ki wine ne and pata hi nahi chala kab mera bhara hua glass khaali ho gaya.
Seems nasha chadh chuka tha, though yeh nahi pata was it nasha of wine, mast mahaul on Lavaash Deck ya phir of the delicious Kebabs, Pizza, Koobideh made by adding walnuts into it.
Waise let me add every visit to Lavaash by Saby is a delightful one. Chef Saby Bhai and Chef Megha Kohli jee leave no stone unturned to ensure their food is perfect in all senses.
I loved meeting some old friends and also made new ones. But then my best friend, Gurleen jee was also along and we had time to talk about some sweet nothings in that mast mahaul while we had our snacks.
The special menu is an initiative by California Walnuts to showcase how walnuts can be used in traditional dishes made during festivals across India.

In main course, we had the amazing Aloo Posto, Railway Mutton Curry, Prawn & California Walnut in Malai Curry and they all came with Signature Lavaash bread and Buttered Govind Bhog Rice. Tha to baaki aur bhi bahut, but meri plate mein inko hi jagah mili 🙂
What I Loved the Most
The star of the evening for me had to be the Chhena Payesh with California Walnuts. To say it was amazing would be an understatement and to put it in words, is difficult too! To ab aap khud hi soch lijiye kitna swadisht hoga ye! If I am around Mehrauli in the next 7 days, I shall go especially to savour more of it 🙂
