Lagom Kitchen & Brewery is like it’s name-Just Perfect

I was crossing Sohna Road last week, passing by JMD Metropolis, when something unusual caught my attention – a BIG, stylish board of LAGOM – Kitchen & Brewery. Another unsurprising newbie, I murmured to myself. But assumptions could go so wrong. Especially when “another unsurprising newbie” turned into “awesome newbie”.

I received a Friday invitation to their Sunday brunch, offered by master brewer Ishan Grover himself. Breweries are Ishan Bhai’s second nature – having set up and maintaining 10 of Gurgaon’s 20 breweries, he can safely be called the “Father of Breweries” in the region.

By the way, I am not a Beer person. I had resolved at the age of 16 to start drinking only at 18. The day I did (My 18th Birthday), I decided to down my full mug of beer at a go, but couldn’t get down to more than a sip. Now I either sip beer from friends’ mugs who insist or have it at Café Mondegar in Bombay who serve me their Shandy (Sprite-blended beer). However, I promised myself to try some beers at Lagom and experience a different side of brewed beers .

From my Rajouri Garden home to Sohna Road it was a wonderful drive. I was thinking Lagom would be a dimly lit place with tables set close together, but well, assumptions. I entered to discover a huge place, with enough space between tables to walk as well as dance. Well-stocked bars stood on the right, as tables and chairs were lined up neatly as far as the eye could see. The luxuriant wood around the place makes you feel cosy and gives off a great vibe.

The snacks came in distinguished bite-sized bowls, as opposed to the usual platters nowadays. Everything that I put into my mouth called for a second and a third helping. Be it the Chicken & Chives, Fish Shumai, Chicken Tikka Pizza ,Smoked Chilli Chicken, Chicken Chilli Garlic , Curry Leaf Fish… It was a refreshing change to see Non-veg American Chow suey, Non-veg Biryani, and Veg Biryani with Veg Korma being passed around in the snack bowls.

So far the interiors are concerned, a lot of attention has been paid to detailing. Every care has been taken to make diners comfortable. Usually, in places like Lagom, small cabins are partitioned off by glass for the smokers. Lagom has stepped it up to devote a 1000 ft area to the same purpose. I’m sure this is going to please many.

The visibly, shining brewery tanks add a touch of class to Lagom’s space.

Superbly done washrooms are complemented by a disabled-friendly restaurant on the whole. Imagine a toilet with ramps.

And if you order a Wood Fired Oven pizza, then you can feast your eyes while they are being made in front of you as the oven is also visible from dining area.

Despite not being a drinker of beer, I accepted Ishan Bhai’s offer of an orange-flavoured beer (they apparently never use artificial flavours). It wasn’t at all hard on my palate – in fact, I relished the subtle taste. Even their malts are imported from Germany.

We invited a lone gentleman to join our group, who went on to claim that with his office nearby this was his fourth visit to Lagom! This put the seal on my impeccable experience – nahi to koi chaar baar wapas thore na aata aise.

The Lexin Swedish-English dictionary defines lagom as “enough, sufficient, adequate, just right” And for me it was the same 🙂

I’m now looking forward to go back soon and try some main courses, while sitting at one of the sofas with tan upholstery and listen to the  music played by DJ. ufffffff 🙂
