Hunger Station – Amazing Junction of Taste at Sohna Road, Gurgaon

Sohna Road was a vacant stretch away from the hustle and bustle of MG Road and Golf Course Road in Gurgaon. It was then that I bought an office in Spaze iTech Park in 2012. My Small office shared space with a few other tenants in the building however still it was largely empty space.  The Lunch was either boring or greasy – there wasn’t an option other than McDonalds and Haldiram. Unless the Tawe ke paranthe from the shack outside Spaze iTech Park could be counted. Or KFC (ah, my favourite Rizo Meal!) that was 2 miles away.

Kuchh bhi keh lo – it was basically no fun.

Things ended up with my leasing out that office as my major portion of my work was happening in West Delhi, near my home.  My next office was in Mansarovar Garden. (Now just this Monday we have to a huge office in Kirti Nagar!) Khane se story isliye shuru ki kyuki jis jagah par ek samay par swadisht khane ka akaal tha… Wahaan aaj swadisht khaane ke baarr aa gayi hai!!!

Numberless food joints, small and big, now grace the length and breadth of Sohna Road, but none of them stole my heart like “Hunger Station” did last week.  I luckily happened to be there a couple of days prior to the opening and was blown away by the experience I was offered.

The Place – Lively & Comfortable. The Food – Flavourful & Cooked to perfection. The Presentation – Fine Dining level. The service – Add a minute to what fast food Chains take.  Finally, The Price – My wallet didn’t even Pinch a bit. Kuch to aisa ho jo pasand na aaye, but nahi…. Aisa kuch bhi nahi wahaan.

For those of you keen to know what went onto my platter that evening, here’s what:-

2016-01-22 14.25.49

Vegetable Biryani:-

Served in an earthen kasora that adds its own magic to the heavenly stuff within, caramelized onions romanced diced paneer as mushrooms and peas danced alongside generous carrot shavings amidst the flavoursome rice, served complete with raita and masala onions. Priced at Rs 195, its non-vegetarian counterpart came at a meagre Rs 225.

2016-01-22 14.26.52Mutton Roganjosh:-

It was wonderful – the perfect spices, an amazing aroma, chunks of well-done meats – served in a copper handi alongside piping butter-smacked naans in a fryer. I’m going back for this again. Pukka. Rs 225

2016-01-22 14.48.50Chicken Por Pia roll:-

I had this Thai dish for the first time, basically a Thai version of spring roll. Together with the awesome spice-laden dip that accompanied this delicacy, what more could one ask for at Rs 95.

Hawaiian Salad:-

Who’d order it after a series of Indian dishes, but I did – because I saw it on the next table and was so tempted by the look of it. It was so worth it – well presented, chilled, crispy, and very tasty – for Rs 150 and Rs 175, vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

I was just taking the pictures around the restaurant when I caught the wood-fired oven dishing out the pizzas. I had to order one for myself!

Spicy Chicken Tikka Pizza:-  It had a  thin crust, yummy sauces, succulent chunks of chicken, and don’t miss the enormous amount of cheese. Yes, aisa!

Ab decide kar liya ki aur khaya nahi jayega… But then it turned out that they have a bakery. I got some of the stars of the bakery section packed and immediately shared it with the family as I got home. . Mummy, Papa, Gurleen, Gurbani, Hargun relished them fully and yearned for more.
Apart from these dishes, don’t forget to try Balti Imli Paneer/Chooza with Pao (Rs 155/175), Mutton Raja Mircha with Steamed Rice (Rs 275), Baltistan Style Paneer Bhurji with Pao (Rs 155), and Grilled Chicken with Mash Potato and Creamy mustard Sauce (225).

Young entrepreneur, Gurpal Chawla, is the driving force behind the idea of Hunger Station. He has been eating, sleeping, and breathing this food joint idea for the past 8 months and it was wonderful to watch his baby grow up so beautifully. Quality food and services are among the promises he makes to his customers.

So next time you are At Sohna Road, or shopping at Shoppers Stop in same complex, or need to meet someone for Coffee/Food/Food/Food 🙂 in Gurgaon then this is the place for you should be.
