One thing I liked about my School, Bishop Cotton School, Shimla is that we had all kind of Sports there. Hurdle Race, Long Jump, High Jump, Discus Throw, Shot Put, Javelin Etc. Etc. Etc.
Yes, Javelin Throw too. When I came back in Delhi, I realized many of my classmates were not even aware ki Javelin throw kya hota hai. But we did it all back in 1988, as a 10-year-old too.
Yes, we did have Shotput in our School when I moved to Delhi and that is the only sport apart from Boxing (In BCS) where I won a Medal.
All those memories of Javelin throw came back a few days back when 21 years young Sportsman Neeraj Chopra won a Gold medal in 2018 Asian Games and also set a national record of 88.06 m.
Believe me, I heard “Javelin Throw” after a gap of a decade if not more.
3 day back I got a call from Gatorade Office that, Asian Games Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra shall be visiting Delhi for a Meet & Greet and share his Stories with us.
Bas yeh suna and Maine baaki saare kaam cancel kiye and on the appointed date reached the venue much before time to have a closer glimpse of the Champion 🙂
The Venue was “Delhi Rock” and believe me I never knew such a place with so many Indoor Adventure Sports activities (Especially Rock Climbing) existed in Delhi and that too in a basement of a Gurdwara Sahib Compound.
The whole place was decked up in Gatorade Colours and enough Gatorade and Aquafina Water was placed to keep the energy High.
All around me were Fitness Enthusiasts Posing in TOUGH poses and here I was sitting & sipping Gatorade and weaving stories in my mind. And also aspiring to be like them.
And Tabhi I saw super energetic Mandira Bedi walk in with a wide smile on her face and a hop in her step. Have met her a couple of times and last time when we met, we (Gurleen & me) won a Panasonic Mobile phone which was later presented to us by her.
She shared Neeraj Chopra’s Journey with us for a few minutes and then we had the Man of the moment himself. “Yaar Seriously” Yeh nikla mooh se. Neeraj looked much Longer, Smarter, Fitter than he does on TV.
EK baari to maine khud se poocha, Tikku Kya kar raha tha tu 21 saal ki umarr mein.
I was a fan already.
Neeraj did share his journey, Ups and Down and how there are years of struggle behind this Success. And mind you, This has just started. In a few years, I would not be amazed if he breaks a world record.
But then this was not all.
Mandira Bedi had planned a special Work out Session with him that included Deep Squats, Plank and other exercises.
After each Set, Neeraj would head out for his bottle of Gatorade and shared with us on how important it is to keep yourself hydrated after each workout lest it backfires.
And for him, Gatorade helps him to Replenish, Rehydrate and Refuel for next Set.
As per science, An average Male athlete may lose 500 ML of Fluid (Sweat) an hour and if you are practicing for 2 hours then it means a Litre of Fluid lost and to keep one’s body hydrated one needs to consume 1.25 Litres of Fluid and Gatorade is his Choice.
The fun part was when a few attendees were invited on stage to Workout with him.
Bhai his Energy and his Tough Moves did leave many of them astonished.
Bas Bhai ab to poora josh aa gya tha and I finished by Gatorade faster and mann ko bol diya, kal se aur mehnat 🙂
Now for next few days Post workout I shall shift from normal water to Gatorade to replenish my Fluids and Electrolytes jo mere sweat mein chhupkar nikal jaate hai 🙂
And haan, from the 3 available flavors, Blue Bolt, Orange and Lemon, My favorite is Orange 🙂
Once again salute to Panipat da hero for his achievement.
