Garam Dharam Revisited – Rajouri Garden

We had plans to go to a new Eatery in CP but then Why we changed our plans and decided upon the last minute to have dinner at Garam Dharam is that I don’t know; but my friend and I generally make it a point to go with our guts when it comes to matters of eating out and that’s what we did last evening. Had dinner at Garam Dharam in Rajouri Garden.

Dharam Pahjee chilling while we dine. And he is there to help you out in any Emergency. He stands just next to the Fire Extinguisher 🙂

He has already been to the CP outlet some time back and shared his experience here. Mein “Garam Dharam” Gaya aur “Yaadon ki Baraat” lekar aaya!ki-baraat-lekar-aaya/
When he shared the invite for the newly opened Rajouri garden outlet, I read the blog again and said a BIG YES.
And here we were in Rajouri garden at BK Dutt Market that in one single lane has 40 Restaurants and if that’s not enough another 20 just opposite the road.
So, I stood at the concierge as he went ahead to park the car. It looked more like a makeshift bhelpuri kiosk than the concierge of Rajouri Garden’s latest fine diners’ dhaba.

The sight that greeted us as I walked in on my friend’s arm only complemented the same. A deceptively primitive ambience, with the interiors done up in coloured panelled wood against spots of chipped wall-paint over red bricks. Dharmendra’s eyes rested on us from his most iconic photographs gracing the walls.

Every corner of Garam Dharam looked so dhaba-esque and cosy that we bounced around quite a bit before we settled down at a well-lit, amply cushioned spot. Amidst all the wood-finished tables with their colourfully cushioned chairs and sofas, ours was the splashiest.

With the manager himself smiling and making everything suited to our tastes, Garam Dharam’s service won our hearts over the food and drinks themselves. A platter of Chicken Seekh Kabab generously infused with a juicy flavour, Murgh Malai Tikka that was left soft but roasted black at just the right places, and almost liquid Mutton Galouti over portions of succulent paratha was served to us.

Followed up by a vegetarian platter, the milky Paneer Tikka and the perfectly done Soya Chaap had nothing of what a diner would imagine the Garam Dharam signature to be. To make up for the same, we were served a lacey Dahi Kabab that pleasured the mouth to a great extent and a Sangam Seekh Kabab that was infused with both chicken and mutton.

2016-03-30 20.47.40Garam Dharam has a core, fuss-free main course menu. We chose to have Balti Meat and Tawa Chicken, as per the chef’s recommendations, accompanied by Lachchha Paratha. Balti Meat was served in a small copper balti that contained a tomato-rich, rather tangy gravy of tiny, gentle muttons. Tawa Chicken, unlike most other dhabas that are fine and less than fine, was subtly spiced, such that the flavours refused to last long within the mouth.

We’d say the wheat-made Lachchha Paratha was our type, especially with those servings of white butter!

We concluded with servings of both Kheer and Phirni: the former was a pale, mildly sweet dessert but topped with numberless almond shavings, whereas the latter tasted more like a highly coloured edible gel compound. We had high hopes from this and hope to get back to try the desserts again. Rajouri Mein rehna hai to MEETHA accha hona hi chahiye!! 🙂

We could be sounding a little harsh, but read on to find out that one thing you must stop by at Garam Dharam for!

The Garam Dharam Highpoint

Sometimes, you forget that exact moment when your eyes met, your lips parted, and your tummy gave way. When you drew close and clasped each other as tightly as childhood fingers.

Sometimes, you forget what followed, whatever it was that was done to you, how else you were thrown roughly but calculatedly around.

All you remember is the powerful ebb and flow that swept through your helpless body, momentarily sweeping all care and sorrow away with its lasting rythm. There’s no escaping the carnal impact coursing through you.

Days later, all your memory manages to retain is that repeated ebb and flow, which at one point of time violently refused to quieten.

That’s Garam Dharam’s Mutton Galouti. Don’t miss it.

Mister Tikku’s Note 🙂 – Garam Dharam, Rajouri is a good place to visit when its Punjabi Food and Good Ambiance on your mind. The Place is Colourful and I loved the Upholstery prints. All the Starters are great and should be tried. Best way is to order a platter. Music played is from Dharam Paajee’s movies and you would find yourself humming the lyrics while eating your Desi Khana. It’s a Good place to take your kids too as it’s well lit, Comfortable to sit and no high decibel Music.
